What is NuvaRing?
NuvaRing is birth control in the form of flexible ring which is inserted into your vagina once a month. The ring is left in place for 3 weeks and then removed for 1 week. You will have a period on the week you remove the ring.

How does NuvaRing work?
Like other birth control methods, NuvaRing releases hormones which help to prevent your ovaries from releasing eggs and therefore helps to prevent pregnancy. The hormones released by the NuvaRing are estrogen and progestin and therefore cannot be used while breastfeeding. As usual, people with history of blood clots, breast of female cancers cannot use NuvaRing. The antibiotic Rifampin along with anticonvulsants and barbiturates may reduce effectiveness of NuvaRing. If you take this antibiotic and/or barbiturates and anticonvulsants, use condoms for birth control. NuvaRing does not protect against from HIV or STDs.

What are the benefits of NuvaRing?
Using the vaginal ring is safe, simple, and convenient. Many women who use the vaginal ring have more regular, lighter, and shorter periods and a woman's ability to become pregnant returns quickly when use of the ring is stopped. It also has least risk of breakthrough bleeding since you are receiving a constant level of hormones.

How do I start using NuvaRing?
You should insert the ring the Sunday after your cycle begins. Example: If you start you period on a Wednesday, the NuvaRing should be inserted the following Sunday, even if you are still bleeding. You will leave the ring in place for 3 weeks and then remove the ring for 1 week and then insert a new ring. If you start your period on a Saturday or Sunday and are still bleeding heavily, you can wait to insert the ring until the next Sunday.

How do I insert the NuvaRing?
Wash your hands with soap and water. Use your fingers to press the sides of the ring together and gently push the ring into your vagina. Do not remove the ring during intercourse.

How do I remove the NuvaRing?
Hook your finger under the forward rim and gently pull it out of the vagina. Wrap it up in tissue and throw it out in the trash, do not flush it down the toilet.

What if the ring slips out of my vagina?
If the ring slips out of your vagina, wash the ring with lukewarm or cool water and put it back in as soon as possible. Use a backup method of birth control, such as condoms, for seven days if the ring is out of your vagina for more than three hours.

How long should I be off of the NuvaRing before trying to conceive?
You should be off of the NuvaRing for 2 to 3 months before attempting conception.
