One-Hour Glucola: Screening Test for Gestational Diabetes
Pregnancy alone places you at increased risk for developing diabetes; therefore, all pregnant women are screened for gestational diabetes.

• You will be provided with a bottle of glucola at your clinic visit prior to the test
• Nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night prior to the test
• Drink the entire bottle of glucola one hour prior to your scheduled visit
• Do not eat or drink anything after consuming the glucola
• Your blood will be tested no later than one hour after finishing your glucola. It is very important that your blood is tested exactly one hour after finishing the glucola or the test will not be accurate and will need repeating.
• Let the receptionist know what time you finished your drink.
• If you are not called back by a nurse promptly, notify the receptionist
• The results of your test will be interpreted immediately.

Three-Hour Glucose Tolerance Test: Confirmatory Test for Gestational Diabetes
If you do not pass the one-hour screening glucola, the next step to determine whether or not you have gestational diabetes is the three-hour test. You are not to eat or drink anything after midnight the night prior to your test. You will be scheduled for an early morning appointment – plan to be in the office approximately three hours.

• You will be provided with a glucola that you will drink while in the office.
• Your blood will be tested prior to drinking the glucola and then again at hourly intervals, up to three hours after consuming the glucola.
• It is very important that you do not eat or doing anything during the course of the test.
• The results of your test will be interpreted immediately.
