In Office Sonography (Including 4D)
Our office is equipped with the latest ultrasound techniques. This allows the patient to receive a high quality exam from one of our registered sonographers and to have the results interpreted by the physician during the same office visit. We provide a TV monitor for the patient to view the sonogram during the exam. This procedure requires the sonographer to place gel on your lower abdomen if pregnant and move a transducer across to produce ultrasound images. A sonogram takes about 15-30 minutes and requires the patient to have a full bladder. Most gynelogical ultrasounds are done vaginally.
We also use pelvic sonograms to determine the cause(s) of problems such as pelvic pain, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, and irregular bleeding.
During pregnancy, we will use sonograms to look at the growth and development of your baby. An early sonogram in the first trimester confirms the accuracy of your baby's due date. At around 18- 20 weeks of gestation, we provide a detailed evaluation of the baby's anatomy and can determine the gender of your little one! Additional sonograms may be necessary in high risk patients. A third ultrasound is usually done at 32 weeks to evaluate fetal growth.
Southern Women's Health also offers 4D Sonogram.
This is strictly optional and for your enjoyment. 4D Sonograpy allows us to capture images of developing babies (with more detail). The 4D Sonogram captures a more realistic image of the physical characteristics and appearance of the developing infant. The optimal time is between 28-32 weeks of your pregnancy. 4D Sonograms are offered at special appointment times, and are not in conjunction with your routine obstetric office visit. The cost for the sonogram is $200; with this you receive five or more black and white images and a recorded DVD disc of your sonogram. If you have email, we are able to email images that are taken during the sonogram. In many cases the images are incredible in their detail; however the quality of the sonogram is dependent on the position, movement of the baby, and size of the mother. Due to the time requirement of these sonograms, no refund is offered.
